We are looking for great people to join our growing organization.

Innovation in education lies on the periphery of most schools and educationally-oriented organizations. Not at Long-View. Innovation and creation are the core of what we do. Each day is different because each day we are thinking about how to design learning experiences that ensure that young learners are growing their capacities to create, communicate, collaborate, and think critically.

A few thoughts on working in our school: We know that classroom educators, in particular, are often isolated and have very little time to collaborate, learn with colleagues, and innovate. At our micro school, we are building exactly the opposite experience. We strive to make collaboration integral to our work environment. Long-View educators are creators, innovators, and idea-generators, and are part of the team in taking Long-View to the next level.

Job Opening: Science Teacher

SCIENCE TEACHER

Long-View seeks a science teacher excited to run an inquiry-based classroom and deeply impact young scientists. You’ll work with a supportive team who will help ensure your success and coherence across our program. The two bands of learners you will teach fall in the upper elementary age group (~2nd-5th grades). Our school is academically rigorous, so we are generally teaching several grade levels or more above expectation. Thus, if you have taught older children, you may be surprised that you’ll be creating an experience that is more akin to expectations typical in a middle school classroom.

Generally speaking, our goal across our science program is to engage children in the practices of scientists and engineers to develop a nuanced understanding of the natural world. Through hands-on practices, kids discover that while there is no universal step-by-step method for scientific inquiry—the scientific approach is defined by shared values such as commitment to evidence-based explanations, rigorous reasoning, and sound justification.

Ultimately, we want our learners to develop a set of skills for solving complex real-world problems. Their grasp of scientific concepts will enable them to make informed decisions on personal and societal issues.  We promote critical thinking through rational discourse, skepticism, peer review, and reproducibility, recognizing creativity as a fundamental element in the production of scientific knowledge.

An advanced degree and/or experience teaching at the high school or middle school level may be helpful, but a love of science, knowledge of NGSS Standards, or experience within the natural sciences will also be considered.

This position is full-time and that is our preference, though we’d be willing to make adjustments for the right person. Start date early to mid-August 2026.

Job Opening: Literacy Teacher

LITERACY (READING + WRITING) TEACHER

Long-View Micro School seeks a Literacy Teacher interested in teaching middle school students, facilitating a rigorous reading and writing experience. You’ll work with a supportive group of experienced educators in developing curriculum, and leverage our learner-centered culture to create a workshop-style environment in which learners will read and write ambitiously. You’ll be teaching one group of kids; each week you’ll teach three, 2-hour class blocks.

The rest of the week you’ll be planning/reading/researching, working collaboratively with the four-member Literacy team and supporting team goals, observing other classes to study teaching or the learning of your students, and collecting data in the form of “artifacts of student work.” Additionally, as a member of the Long-View team, you’ll also  participate in the running of the school and the daily delivery of an outstanding educational experience for our eighty learners. On balance, you’ll have time to do a superior job teaching, but also time to collaborate with colleagues so as to co-construct a high-level learning environment for all Long-View kids.

An advanced degree and/or experience teaching at the high school or university level is necessary, as well as a high interest and love for reading and writing. Background in the reading and writing workshop model of teaching is helpful. An interest in developing academically rigorous curriculum is necessary, as well as strong knowledge of literature, authors, and the writing process. It is imperative that you are an excellent writer, and able to work independently and collaboratively. Plus, we prefer fun, intellectually curious people!

This position is full-time and that is our preference, though we’d be willing to make adjustments for the right person. Start date early to mid-August 2026.
