Learning for the Long-View

It's time to start Learning for the Long-View.

We wanted to share an exciting project we have been working on this summer. We have created a new platform to support educators (and interested parents!) called “Learning for the Long-View.”

Learning for the Long-View is a subscription-based website focused on elevating learning and transforming thinking in mathematics. Members will have access to a dynamic library of videos, guides, graphics, scripts, as well as weekly chats and live events with the Long-View team. This is all in addition to weekly lesson plans.

Our math team is continuously working to spread the Long-View approach. In this new web platform, subscribers have an innovative way to develop content knowledge for the teaching of mathematics, while also exploring how advanced pedagogy can elevate and impact learning.

More on the Long-View approach and our work with math educators across the country:

In 2020-21 our math team worked with 250 teachers, reaching ~5,250 students from rural Edgecombe County, NC to urban San Francisco, CA. We serve math teachers who want to shift to a pedagogy that is learner-centered and supports deep understanding of the discipline.

At the center of the Long-View approach is our Generative Framework for the construction of arithmetic concepts — it is applicable to all number forms and removes the need for instruction focused merely on discrete procedures, a mainstay of American schools. The Generative Framework means children are not restricted to only learning “grade-level-based school mathematics;” they experience math as a connected discipline and reasoning is unleashed.

Learning for the Long-View is our effort to provide just-in-time support to the growing community of teachers, administrators, parents, and specialists that strive to utilize our approach. Learning for the Long-View is a living library of videos and resources focused on:

  1. Constructing a Generative Framework for Mathematics

  2. Expanding and Strengthening Mathematical Reasoning

  3. Impacting Learning
